Our Ministry
Here at Riverland Hills, we strive to glorify Jesus Christ in all that we do. Through our College Ministry we seek to intentionally disciple students who will, in turn, make disciples on their campuses and one day in their careers.
We focus on five main areas for this:
1. Corporate Worship: We love the church and feel that we, as a multigenerational congregation, ought to be lifting up the name of Jesus together. For this reason, we encourage our students to attend the 10:15am worship service in Worship East, where we sit together and participate with the whole congregation in worship and learning.
2. Bible Study: For us, there is nothing comparable to coming together to fellowship, study God’s Word, pray, and seek accountability with each other. We meet weekly at 7 pm on Wednesday nights in room B206. These are intentional, intimate times that foster amazing growth and authentic relationships within our ministry.
3. Service: 1 Corinthians 12 gives a beautiful picture of the church, with all parts of the body working in unison. Verse 27 tells us that we all have a part to play in this. We believe that once God calls us to follow Him, He does not allow us to sit on the sidelines and observe. We all were given wonderful gifts. God made each of us the way He did, so we can reach His kingdom. We encourage our students to become aware of their gifts and then become active in serving the church, whether that is with youth, children, media, or any variety of other areas. 4. Events: Throughout the semester we have different events where we will come together for fellowship and fun. Our college lunches are held a few times a semester and are a great time to come together as a ministry for worship, fellowship, and free food! Check the ‘Gatherings’ page for dates and times!
5. Mission: We seek to be a sending ministry. Whether it is to another country or around the corner, we want to see our students be active participants in taking the Gospel to the lost. To accomplish this we offer resources and training to help students better share their faith with the nations. We also participate as a ministry in domestic and global missions. We will post information on trips as they are planned.

Leadership
Bart and Jen Cook met at East Carolina University where they both served as leaders in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. After graduating from ECU and getting married, they moved to Columbia in order for Bart to pursue his theological education at Columbia International University (where he would earn his Masters of Divinity).
Bart began full time ministry at Riverland Hills Baptist Church in 2007, serving as Pastor of High School and College Students. Jen has been a teacher for 13 years and is a teacher at Irmo Middle School. Both are passionate about reaching the next generation for Christ and making disciples. They strongly believe there is a huge need in the "culturally-christian" South to teach and model the real Gospel. Bart loves teaching through scripture verse-by-verse and engaging students in discussion. The love of their lives are their two kids, Micah (6) and Piper (2). Micah would like to a be a ninja when he grows up and Piper would like to be Cinderella. |
